Urban Experience Babcock Ranch        Babcock Ranch is an 18,000-acre community rising from cattle, land, and wildlife habitat located in Southwest Florida in Fort Myers. It is America's first solar powered town with Above is a picture taken at Babcock Ranch with a solar panel. I decided to do a virtual trip of the community. The picture is sourced from “Babcock Ranch” about us section. After watching the virtual trip of this sustainable community, I was able to observe a few things.      One personal observation I was able to encounter during this virtual trip is the solar energy panels. As mentioned earlier, the community is a solar powered town and is Babcock Ranch's key component. When you turn on a light during the day, it will be powered by solar energy. When the sun goes down at night, light will be powered by natural gas. This makes the community having the cleanest form of energy.  In Robertson, it would be called energy efficiency and co...

Marine Experience Fort Myers Beach   Fort Myers Beach is  a town on Estero Island, off the southwest Florida coast . According to the "FM Beach" blog, the beach is about 7 miles long and has a history of over 2,000 years since it was first discovered.  Above is a picture of my family at Fort Myers Beach. The picture was taken around last month March. After spending time at the beach with my family, I was able to observe a few things.       One personal observation I was able to encounter during this trip is the energy. While walking through the sands of the beach and letting the water run through my toes, I observed the waves. As well as the boats in the water. The waves are created by energy passing through water, causing it to move in a circular motion.  Waves transmit energy across the ocean.  In Robertson, it would be called wave and tidal energy. "M assive amounts of energy flow through the world’s oceans, driven by gravity and the sun. ...

Agriculture Experience ECHO Global Farm     ECHO is a knowledge hub for development practitioners around the world.  Above is a picture taken of the ECHO Florida farm. ECHO has several locations across the world. I decided to do a virtual trip of ECHO in North Fort Myers, Florida. The picture is sourced from "echonet.org". After watching the virtual trip of ECHO Global Farm, I was able to observe a few things.       One personal observation I was able to encounter during this virtual trip is the duck in tilapia system. This system relies on duck manure to stimulate the growth of phytoplankton which is being eaten by the tilapia. It is integrated into a sustainable farming system and reduces the costs for feeding livestock which can be a struggle for farmers to find income. In Robertson, it would be referred to as organic agriculture. The duck tilapia system does not use synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Instead, it relies on biological approach...

Freshwater Experience Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve      CREW is a 60,000-acre watershed located in southwest Florida that protects the quality and quantity of the region’s water resources. Above is a picture taken of the CREW Marsh Trail. I decided to do a virtual trip of the CREW watershed. The picture is sourced from “Wetlands in Florida” blog. After watching the virtual trip of Keepers of the Watershed, I was able to observe a few things.       One personal observation I was able to encounter during this virtual trip is the water conservation. The CREW watershed is the largest intact watershed in Southwest Florida and is considered a water conservation land. CREW being a 60,000 acre land that also provides habitat for wildlife, it is important that the watershed is used to reduce the amount of water wasted. In Robertson, it would be stated as irrigation. “Globally, agriculture is the largest consumer of water. Seventy percent of the water used w...

Sense of Place Field Trip Experience

Field Trip Experience     For this "field trip", I decided to choose to be stillness and meditate outside of my house underneath my oak tree. Here I was able to capture a picture of where I meditated. I spent about 30 minutes outside sitting while the sun was setting just enjoying the quiet moment of nature. It was my first time meditating and I never realized how pleasant just sitting in silence is. During this meditation, I was able to observe a few things.  One personal observation I was able to encounter during this meditation is my train of thought. My train of thought tends to be interrupted often by people, objects, smell, almost anything. But sitting in silence I was able to focus more and have a clearer thought without any distraction. In Robertson, it would be stated as vision. My vision was a lot more clearer during my meditation. "It is essential to create a clear vision of sustainability at the beginning of the planning process, a clear and compelling image ...
